States of the State : A contemporary Survey of American Printmaking

A special Message from Joseph Velasquez, DPA

Hello Folio Participants!

First off, thank you all for your patience. This has been a major endeavor and is just about to wrap up!

I am pleased to announce that the folios will be shipping out soon!

within the next four to six weeks this amazing portfolio should be in your hands!

Over the last couple of months the DPA has ben hard at work putting these prints all together and even showcased them in Venice thanks to John Hitchcock!

The DPA has bad news to report that within a three day period of not renewing our domain "dirtyprintmakers.com", GoDaddy has sold the domain to some one in China! The DPA still owns "Dirtyprintmakers.org" for the next four years, however, the email extensions joseph@dirtyprintmakers.com and Emily@dirtyprintmakers.com have been lost along with all correspondence!

Please update your contact list for the DPA's new email:

dirtyprintmaker@yahoo.com

joseph.elcid@yahoo.com

please drop joseph a message at either address so that he can send you a message as to when you should expect your folio!

thank you!!!

About the folio:

During my four-year Drive By Press project I was able to visit high schools; colleges; universities; studios; galleries and contract shops throughout the 48 States. I met hundreds of printmakers and viewed thousands of prints. To friends I've met on the road, I thank you for hosting me; donating prints; and cooking for me in your home. If I am a new face, I hope to meet you and I thank you for accepting the DPA mission in good faith.

During the tour I kept a journal of events, recording names of each printmaker who I believe best represents their discipline and craft. This DPA portfolio project is an extension of that list. In addition, each of the Host Schools was asked to select artists in their respective folio in order to achieve the strongest possible representation for each print discipline.  I'm excited about the scope and range of artists who have accepted.

This massive State of the States endeavor has taken careful planning and coordinated effort. I am extremely thankful to the host schools in this project and I would also like to thank Emily Arthur Douglass, DPA Vice President, for her guidance and organization as we put this into action. I had a great run with Drive by Press, a great print-venture. Now, I look forward to working with you in the next part of this trip – the Dirty Printmakers of America!

Spread the Ink,

- Joseph

DPA States of the State Portfolio Definition

DPA defines the States of the State Portfolio project as A Contemporary Survey of American Printmaking. We have limited this current project to the US only. An international project may follow, but who is making prints in the States right now? Get ready to see some amazing prints in one of the most ambitions collections of American Printmaking to date.

DPA Portfolio Artists & Host Schools

DPA States of the State portfolio artist participants are an amazing cast of printmakers! Participation is Invitation only. With the help of our Host Schools, the DPA has cast a wide net of artist participants to ensure that the selected artists represent the broadest possible range of techniques and aesthetics regardless of any DPA connection to them.
